Feeding your dog – Canine Nutrition

Diet is the bricks and mortar of health. This applies to dogs as well as humans. Putting a little thought into what you feed your dog can pay big dividends with their improved health over their lifetime.

The dog’s digestive system is designed for meat consumption and benefits from a meat rich diet. Meat should be the first and most abundant ingredient in your chosen food.

All FourFriends Super Premium foods with Aloe Vera have a high percentage of muscle meat from animal origin.

Whichever food you choose, the first ingredient listed on the bag will always be of the largest quantity. For example, if cereals are the first ingredient, this will be the most prominent component  in the food.  Also watch for ‘split grains’ as some companies use several grain sources in relatively small amounts, which when added together become the main ingredient. For example, maize flour, maize gluten and maize meal can be listed separately so each ingredient will seem insignificant, but added together they could be the largest percentage part of the food.

In line with British law, all complete dog foods have to display the percentages of protein, fat, fibre and ash on the packaging. Some companies, such as FourFriends also show the nutrient content but this is completely voluntary.

All dogs need a range of nutrients to live a healthy life. FourFriends include high quality products such as apples as a source of fibre instead of beet pulp. Apples are more gentle on the intestines and are also a good source of antioxidants.

Included in FourFriends as standard are fruit and herbal extracts from grapes, rosemary, turmeric, citrus fruit and cloves. These are strong sources of natural antioxidants.

The addition of mannan-oligosackarides and frukto-oligsackarides works as preboitica to keep the dog’s intestinal flora in good health. Along with Aloe Vera (1.5g/kg) this assists with maintains a perfectly balances digestive system.

As a sign of our commitment to quality. FourFriends foods carry the FSS symbol. We are here to help.
